Disney develops a robot car that can run not only the ground but also walls

Speaking of Disney, movie production and theme park management are known, and the company's content uses the latest technology that surprises the viewers. The department called Disney Research, which is the research department of the company, is engaged in the development of these latest technologies. A robot whose Disney Research can climb the wall in collaboration with Zurich Technical University in SwitzerlandVertiGoWe have released a movie that shows how it actually operates.

You can see how VertiGo, developed by Disney in collaboration with Zurich Technical University, works from the following movie.

VertiGo - A Wall - Climbing Robot Including Ground - Wall Transition - YouTube

VertiGo is a robotic car with wheels mounted on a double wishbone suspension with oil damper. We use carbon fiber material for car body to travel on the wall, and said that we are making it the most lightweight. In addition, although it is a little confusing in the image, two chassis are equipped with two large propellers, and this propeller enables wall running.

Only the front wheels are movable in the wheel.

VertiGo's amazing place to climb the wall as well as run on the flat ground.

VertiGo slowly approaches the wall.

When the front wheels contact the wall, the propeller in the chassis rolled.

Looking at the way the front wheel lifts, you can see that the propeller behind rotates the propeller in the forward direction, the propeller in the front produces the upward thrust.

Using the propeller's power to stand upright ...

Again the propeller tilted, VertiGo began to climb the wall.

As the two propellers rotate at an exquisite angle, it is going forward while pushing the car against the wall. By adjusting the angle of the propeller, it is also possible to advance the wall laterally.

It seems strange that VertiGo runs around a large upright wall.

Although Disney does not make clear about the commercialization of VertiGo, it may possibly appear in a park, such as a movie or Disney land.
