Shamaran:

Even in the past SF, there are works like "getting strangely into a strange city", "People around show people behaving like a different person", but do not you like those settings?

Shamaran:
I do not like being bound by one genre. Even though I have been watching this work for a long time, it is the second half what kind of genre works are revealed. So, while looking like "Twin Peaks", some people are confused as "Which genre is it?" It is fun to say that "deprive the audience's initiative". Originally, I thought it would be fun to mix various genres, I thought that there are no genres that do not fit. My new movie "The Visit" scheduled to be released this autumn has become a very interesting work though it is a horror movie. Even if it feels difficult to coexist, it is possible.

Shamaran:
Exactly. Actually, there are elements other than entertainment from the first episode, but only you are not aware (laugh). That will gradually come out on the surface.

Have you made a full-scale participation in these long-length TV series, and was there any difference from movies?

Shamaran:
Of course, as a matter of time, the TV series takes longer to produce, right? But because I did not supervise at all episodes, thanks to that I was able to take a movie in the meantime. At the same time, I also felt the interest of "Will it be that way?" I have been thinking that what would happen if other director took it from long ago, and that people who saw themselves and other directors and two versions are also interesting. For example "227 days drifting with Life of Pie / TigerI was planning to take a picture, but ultimately Director Ann Lee took a picture. Did you make "We Word Pines" this time and found anything that could be useful for future work?

Shamaran:
There were lots, lots of it. For example, in shooting a drama, I have to shoot the next step more quickly, so I do not see playback just because I finished shooting the scene. But I took it as a movie and confirmed it. If I failed, I took it again and confirmed ... ... so I took a lot of time. Originally, since the television has to make it in the limitation, it is necessary to go shooting with a specific shot. There are ten episodes, but for example if you review the second episode / third episode, if there is a part that thinks "this was not enough", the director shooting 5 episodes will be asked "Do you take these kind of things? You can connect the material and insert the material later.


"The Visit" introduced this method, taken as soon as possible, put in a 3-week break, edited in the meantime, and made a schedule to shoot again when a break opened. Instead of shooting it on the spot, I felt it was not enough in the editing work, I took a picture of the part I thought was not going well, I took it from another direction. Then, it worked as if it was doing a thrill. It seems to have been rewritten as "This answer is a mistake, so let's do this" after the answer is returned in the test (haha)

I think that it is close to how to make a classic movie not to look back what I took, but what do you think the director thinks?

Shamaran:
As a human being writing a script, I regret sorry that my birth was late. That's because you use a PC instead of a typewriter when writing a screenplay. If you are a PC you can edit a phrase, while you write it, but if it is a typewriter it will not be, basically it will continue to write with a flow of consciousness. Then, a commitment to what you are writing comes out clearly. This may be similar to how to shoot the current image and how to shoot it in the past. Looking at playback and changing ... .... It is the way it is now, because it is an old way to keep shooting with intuition without seeing playback.

After grasping the contents of part 3 of the original, it is a dare question. This "We Word Pines" is believed even if it is told that "Director Shamaran was actually writing the original" or "It is one trick that itself is supervised by M · Night Chamarran" That's the work, but as Director Shamaran, who has worked on scripts and directors with numerous works, where is the interesting and interesting thing about this work?

Shamaran:
