Tokyo Anime Award announced -"Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea" was chosen Animation of the Year


The winners of Tokyo Anime Award was decided and announced on February 19th. The highest prize "Animation of the Year" went to Gake no ue no Ponyo (Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea), and the Excelence Prize of Television Category went to Macross Frontier and Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion.

The prize giving ceremony is to be held at Tokyo International Anime Fair(TAF) 2009 on March 20 at Tokyo Big Sight.

There are Open Entry Awards for amateur creators as well as Nomination Awards category chosen from commercialized works.

Animation of the Year went to the highly acclaimed animated film Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli which was released in Japan on July 19, 2008 and made some box office record of domestic films.
