The Indian government has banned the following 59 apps.

On the reason for the ban, the Indian Ministry of Information Technology said, 'There are concerns about the protection of data security and privacy of 1.3 billion people. This concern has recently become noticeable and threatens our sovereignty and security. The Ministry of Information Technology has received complaints from multiple sources that it has abused apps available on Android and iOS and has sneaked and secretly sent user data to servers outside India. And data being edited by someone hostile to security and security will ultimately violate India's sovereignty and integrity, which is a very dangerous and urgent concern. '.

The Cyber Crime Countermeasure Center under the Ministry of Interior strongly advised the Ministry of Information Technology to block the above “malicious apps”. In addition, the Indian computer emergency response team has received a number of reports from the public regarding data security, and this is the reason why the case has been raised in the parliament.

Prohibition of use is based on Article 69A of the Information Technology Act, and Apple or Google must delete the corresponding app from the Indian domestic app store of OS.

According to a report from app analysis company Sensor Tower, TikTok has 611 million downloads in India, accounting for 30.3% of the total . It is especially popular in the center of India and is said to have over 100 million active users. Banned app operators often have offices in India, and these employees will be in financial crisis with the creators who are making money on the app.

The use of TikTok in India was temporarily banned in 2019 by an order of the Madras High Court, but once the court lifted the ban, its usage was quickly restored. On the other hand, this ban affects more comprehensive and more apps, and it is not clear when the apps will be lifted as it is a strategy taken in the context of national defense.

It should be noted that China-based apps are banned not only in India but also in Taiwan and Germany where usage restrictions are imposed on Chinese-made apps including the video chat application Zoom.
