Wooden Word Watch is a wristwatch with a 10 x 11 row alphabet engraved on a face of a watch of a typical size.

Pushing the crown beside the main body will let the letters shine like this and will tell you the time. On this screen, you can see that "IT IS HALF PAST ONE" is displayed and the current time is around 1:30.

If you press crown again, this time it will be this display. Even reading only the glowing characters does not make any sense at all, but if you look closely you can see that the numbers are displayed as "1: 32".

This watch was made by Harnek Gulati who studies electron optics and mechanical engineering at Harvard University. Based on what I made for my best friend Andrew 's birthday gift, it came to commercializing this wristwatch.

In addition, it seems that English version and Spanish version are prepared for dial.

In making a watch, the first thing I did was design a dial. Arrange letters by computer based on handwritten manuscripts. If you look closely you can see that the characters such as "QUATER" and "MINUITES", and "ONE", "SIX", "THREE" etc are laid skillfully. Based on this design, letters are engraved with a laser cutter on the wooden board from which the dial is based.

And this device which arranges the small LED chip on the board with the Bissiri letting the letters shine.

Mr. Gulati designed the wiring by oneself, it seems to be a two-layer circuit of both front and back sides.

Microchip is mounted on the back, controlling time management and display.

In this way, it is possible to light only the necessary LEDs.

Not only the dial, the body of the wristwatch is also cut out from the wood. It is just like an engineer, perhaps to produce using an NC machine.

Place the board in the wristwatch body and attach the black spacer parts outputted with the 3D printer. If you put a dial made of wood on this ... ...

Completion of Wooden Word Watch. A soft texture that uses natural wood, which can not be said, seems to fit in my hands.

The crown is also made of wood.

On the back side, holes for attaching button batteries are drilled.

In the following movies, Mr. Gulati talks about Wooden Word Watch in various ways.
