Since tobacco has a negative impact on health, regulatory policy has been adopted in many countries, but as of 2015 there are more than 9 million people who "smoke every day" in the world. Other than that, research shows that the number of smokers is 1 billion and that 6.4 million people die annually by the influence of tobacco.

The research was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Bloomberg Philanthropy and published as an open access paper by The Lancet.

According to the data, one in four men (smoking rate 25%) in 2015, one in 20 women (smoking rate 5%) was the "smoker" in 2015. There are 9.33 million people who smoke every day, and it is said that the total of figures such as "smoking occasionally" will reach about 1 billion people.

"Smoking rate" has declined since 1990 figures were 35% for males and 8% for females, especially in high income countries and Latin American countries, but in the Republic of Congo and Azerbaijan men Smoking rate of females in Kuwait and East Timor were markedly increased, respectively.

Dr. Kelly Henning of Bloomberg Philanthropies working on tobacco control said that the overall reduction in smoking rate is "good news" and at the same time there are still many smokers, so there are lots of things to do I am talking.

For example, 6.4 million people, equivalent to 11.5% of the world's deaths in 2015, have died due to smoking, half of which are concentrated in the four countries of China, India, the United States and Russia. This is because of the large population, but more than 1 million people die in China due to the ill effects of smoking annually. Dr. Henning noted that "This trend is only beginning to show the influence of the high smoking rate of Chinese men," smoking will become the main "epidemic disease" from now on.
