64 GB memory card can be produced

It seems that Samsung realized production of flash memory with larger capacity than before. We are going to mass produce from November. For your reference, a 64 GB memory card will hold 40 hours of DVD quality movies.

According to this announcement, Samsung realized the production of 32 Gb (bit, 1 byte is 8 bit) flash memory by using 40 nanometer production process. In theory it is possible to finally produce 256 Gb flash memory with 20 nanometer production process. By combining multiple 32 Gb flash memories, it seems that memory cards of up to 64 GB can be manufactured.

As expected it will be worrisome about price as it becomes 64 GB, but it is good news for digital camera users who have enough capacity, no matter how much it is. It also seems to be expected to be used in other ways, such as inserting it in a notebook computer and supplementing a missing HDD, or a personal computer with an HDD made with a large capacity flash memory.
